As for the sound of House of Marley in-ear headphones, reviewer Lauren Gores gushed about the “ridiculously deep bass” that comes courtesy of the 9mm driver hidden inside the confines of the ultra comfortable earpiece.

No matter the ground you’re covering, whether it’s the street, the park, the vert ramp or just the backyard, any headphones for skateboarding should not restrict your ability to do tricks.

The House of Marley’s Zion and Redemption Song in-ear headphones allow for this while also making sure that the ear piece remains firmly in place, allowing you to concentrate on landing that trick.

Just like a pair of skate shoes or the bushings in your trucks, when headphones for skateboarding are created, designers attempt to make them as cushy and comfortable as possible. The House of Marley has taken extra care to outfit in-ear headphones like People Get Ready, Conqueror, Midnight Ravers and Smile Jamaica, with supremely comfortable earbuds that will conform to your ear. Slamming on the ground may hurt, but your ears won’t after wearing our earbuds.

While headphones for skateboarding are all about mobility comfort, Marley earbuds pack the musical punch necessary for motivation. With killer bass from our custom engineered acoustics system and coil drivers pumping out smooth sounds, Marley headphones are capable of projecting the perfect skateboard soundtrack.

While headphones for skateboarding may never be directly responsible for helping you land a kickflip, wearing a pair of Marley earbuds will give you the added style and inspiration points every time. Even when you’re just pushing down the street.

Jam These Bob Marley Covers On Our New “Get Up Stand Up” Home Audio System

When deciding what to name the new House of Marley home audio system, which is now available to fans in select countries, we had a relatively short list of song candidates. “Get Up Stand Up” quickly topped that list. Written by Bob Marley and his Wailer bandmate Peter Tosh, “Get Up Stand Up” is known as one of Marley’s signature songs and appeared on the 1973 record, Burnin’. The cultural relevance of the song runs deep and has persevered as one of the most popular Bob Marley covers by new artists.

From hip-hop and reggae to classic rockers and major pop stars, it’s no surprise that Bob Marley covers show up in all shapes and sizes. Often utilized as a mantra for protest, “Get Up Stand Up” has been proclaimed in songs by Guru, Common and Public Enemy. In the classic mid-90s hip-hop track, “Jayou,” Jurassic 5 don’t exactly perform a traditional Bob Marley cover, but rather sample the melody via a recurring woodwind loop.

Elsewhere, there are more traditional Bob Marley covers of “Get Up Stand Up” throughout the past four decades. The Rolling Stones, who formed as an R&B band, later took a reggae turn in the late ‘70s when Marley’s popularity soared. On their Bigger Bang tour in 2005, The Stones paid homage to their hero with a spot-on cover of “Get Up Stand Up.” The recent queen of Bob Marley covers, Rihanna, has also chalked up a new version of the 1973 classic on a recent mixtape.

Listening to “Get Up Stand Up” isn’t just like listening to any other song. It’s an experience. The Marley sound will have you up and out of your seat and when pumped through the House of Marley’s Get Up Stand Up home audio system, it will have you ready for a revolution. Check out these Bob Marley covers we’ve collected below on your brand new Get Up Stand Up and prepare for a funky reggae party.

What Does Eco-Friendly Mean to the House of Marley?

what-does-eco-friendly-mean
At House of Marley, we aim to create highly stylized headphones with impeccable sound, and great fashion appeal, but the underlying focus has always been on creating a product that is sustainable and eco-friendly. But just what does eco-friendly mean? Created with both the safety of the planet and the consumer in mind, the House of Marley is excited about creating new green products.

Our idea to create headphones that answered the question, “What does eco-friendly mean?” goes back to incorporating the philosophies of our namesake, Bob Marley. The legendary artist was a consummate advocate for Mother Nature, who wrote songs extolling her many virtues as well as protest lyrics aimed at her detractors. With this in mind, the House of Marley looked to cut down on waste by using recycled material to create our products. While some products stamp their product as being “green” without considering what it really means, our brand uses everything from recycled hemp, cotton, plastic water bottles, metal and FSC Certified wood to create our unique products.

By using this recycled material, the House of Marley cuts down on the energy it takes to produce our eco-friendly headphones, eco-friendly bags, and portable audio systems. Instead of creating new pieces from scratch, we focus on using plastic bottles and metal refuse to turn out a new shiny product that hardly seemed possible given the prior state of the materials used. In addition, by using hemp to create fabric, the House of Marley is capable of yielding more fiber than with traditional cotton, and there are no pesticides used to control the crop.

When considering the question “What does eco-friendly mean?” many consumers previously assumed these items were only meant to serve for function and not for fashion. Yet, with the creation of new textiles like REWIND, the material used to create the House of Marley’s eco-friendly bags, there are a new breed of eco-friendly products that have changed the outlook of many on the versatility of green technology. Taking into account the looks of a product, its functionality and its reusability factor, the House of Marley is focused on well-designed products that can help, not hurt, the Earth.

In his song “Small Axe,” Bob Marley compares himself to as a hand axe that is used to cut down those that rule in a tyrannical fashion, metaphorically referring to them as “the big tree.” Using this comparison, Marley shows that those who band together to take down a big problem can truly triumph in the end. The House of Marley is committed to working to end the problems that plague Mother Nature’s eco-system. The first step is asking yourself “What does eco-friendly mean to me and how can I make a difference?”

How Do Noise-Canceling Headphones Work?

While the House of Marley Destiny TTR over-ear headphones cut out a lot of noise naturally because of their unique design, they are also outfitted with state-of-the-art noise canceling technology. Unlike traditional headphones that only have a sound source speaker, the Destiny headphones use active noise control, or ANC, technology to cut out the noises in the environment surrounding you. Through this battery-powered mechanism, your music experience will be undisturbed while listening on House of Marley Destiny over-ear headphones.

how-do-noise-canceling-headphones-workBut just what is ANC technology and how do noise-cancelling headphones work? While the frequency of the music travels from your listening device to your headphones, there is another anti noise frequency that meets up with it, duplicates its frequency and flips it 180 degrees. The driver of your House of Marley Destiny over-ear headphones takes this frequency and pumps it through the aluminum enclosures surrounding your ears, enveloping you in the sounds of Bob Marley’s Trenchtown rock.

With further exploration into the world of headphones, one will find that there are both noise-cancelling headphones and noise-isolating headphones. How do noise-canceling headphones work differently from noise isolating headphones? House of Marley earbuds, like the Zion, Redemption Song, Conqueror, People Get Ready, Midnight Ravers and Smile Jamaica in-ear headphones create a seal when placed in your ear that conform to its shape. Without the more advanced technology found in the Destiny over-ear headphones, the House of Marley in-ear headphones are capable of partially blocking out some of the sounds from the outside world.

For the ultimate noise-canceling headphone experience, the House of Marley Destiny over-ear headphones will not only kick out the jams with proper authority, but also make the noises from the outside world fade away. Do yourself a favor by taking the time to become one with the music, experience the #LiveMarley lifestyle and listen to music the way it was intended to be listened to.

Nice Time: Cedella Marley Interview

cedella-marley

Since there’s only a week left in the Nice Time Contest, the House of Marley wanted to take a moment to get better acquainted with the talented woman affectionately known as Nice Time: Cedella Marley.

As Bob Marley’s second child, Cedella was given the nickname “Nice Time” by her legendary father, who subsequently wrote a song about her with the same title. Today, Cedella is CEO of Tuff Gong International, a renowned fashion designer (you may have seen her wares on the Jamaican Olympic team this summer), children’s author, musician, and proud member of the Marley family.

Check out our interview with Cedella Marley and get to know Nice Time for yourself.

What does Marley mean in 2012?

This was a very special year with the debut of the documentary. We are all very proud to be able to share our dad with the world. As a family, we have some great projects on the horizon, so the remainder of the year will be a good one.

The Marley legacy is so far-reaching. Where are some of the most memorable places you’ve experienced it?

I am constantly amazed at the reach and impact my father’s music has made around the globe. His music is timeless. It’s universal to all ages, all walks of life.

Do you have any favorite lyrics of your father’s?

They all hold a special place in my daily life. Right now I am feeling the lyrics of “Positive Vibration” as I always like to stay focused on moving forward and staying positive.

How old were you when your father started calling you “Nice Time”? Which came first, the nickname or the song?

He had been calling me Nice Team since birth. I’m pretty sure the name came first, then the song.

When did you realize you wanted to be a fashion designer?

I have always loved fashion. Both my mother and father have made a huge impact on my work as a designer. To me and to many other people in the world, their style is iconic.

Where did you draw inspiration from when designing for the Jamaican Olympic team?

For the Olympic collection, I drew inspiration from the colors and vibes of Jamaica, vintage military cuts and, of course, Grace Jones. I felt that the fits worked well with the physics of the athletes, and the colors clearly represented our country and our ability to heat up the track.

Regarding your series of children’s books, how did you decide you wanted to bring your father’s message to this generation of youth?

That’s the beauty of my father’s message: it works for all ages. I am a mother of three, and I see how a positive message can impact their lives and their interactions with others. His positivity has been felt around the world, by all ages for decades. This was his greatest gift.
