Hit The Sand With Your Chant Portable Bluetooth Speaker & This Beach Songs Playlist

beach-songs-playlist-1
Since it’s winter for most of us, people in warmer climates should take advantage of the sun and dig their feet into the sands of the local beach. We’ve even created our own beach songs playlist to help you start the party on your Chant portable Bluetooth speaker. And for anyone who can’t hit the beach in 20 degree weather, you too can enjoy this beach songs playlist to get you geared up for the good times that will surely come with the more forgiving spring weather.

U-Roy – “On The Beach”

Start your beach songs playlist with none other than “The Originator,” and let U-Roy’s funky reggae beckon your friends to go “have some fun, on the beach where there is a party.“

The Babies – “Moonlight Mile”

Cooing girl/boy vocals and sharp keyboard lines saunter this jam from the Brooklyn-based band, The Babies. You can nearly hear the waves crashing in with each strum of reverb-filled guitar noise.

Melody’s Echo Chamber – “Some Time Alone, Alone”

On “Some Time Alone, Alone” Melody’s Echo Chamber evokes the spirit of a mellow day, beachside hanging with friends and a Chant portable Bluetooth speaker.

Bob Marley – “Rainbow Country”

Bob Marley appears on our beach songs playlist with a little known ode to a beautiful day in Jamaica. Claiming, “Though the road might be rocky, it sure feels good,” Marley’s lyrics make “Rainbow Country” an uplifting anthem.

Mac Demarco – “Cooking Up Something Good”

Creating a blend of modern indie rock and feel good reggae on “Cooking Up Something Good,” Mac Demarco will have your heads bouncing along with the breaking waves.

Neil Young – “Walk On”

With its iconic cover, a Cadillac buried in the sand, Neil Young’s album On The Beach features some classic jams for days spent at the seaside. The track “Walk On” has a stumbling reggae/rock vibe that reminds us of having fun in the sun.

Love Is All – “Wishing Well”

With “Wishing Well,” the Swedish five-piece Love Is All channeled the rush of ocean waves and offered an instant party jam to anyone in need of a hoppin’ beach songs playlist.

Wavves – “King of the Beach”

Wavves is as engrained in the sand of the Pacific Ocean as the shells and stones that line the shore. Not adding “King of the Beach” and the sound of the Golden Coastline onto our beach songs playlist was unthinkable.

The Heptones – “It’s Like Heaven”

Spending time with your friends in the sand is “just like heaven all the time.” Let The Heptones preach!

Peace – “Your Hand in Mine”

Of course, your day at the beach was filled with fun and great music on your Chant portable Bluetooth speaker, but you need a closing song for the perfect ending. Peace’s “Your Hand in Mine” is the essential track for just such an occasion.

Tony Hawk Foundation Brings Skateboarding to Underprivileged Youth

Recently, the Tony Hawk Foundation united with eBay Giving Works and some of the most recognizable names in the music industry to raise $126,000 in an effort to build skateparks for underprivileged youth.

tony-hawk-foundationtony-hawk-foundationDeveloped by Tony Hawk Foundation board member and musician Ben Harper, the group collected old pro skater decks from the likes of Jamie Thomas, Bucky Lasek and Mike Vallely to auction. Yet, these weren’t just any old decks. Inscribed with lyrics and autographs from Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, and the recently departed Adam “MCA” Yauch, all of these skateboards were certifiable one-of-a-kind pieces of skate and music history. While the rest of us will have to settle for skating to these artists playing on our Bag of Riddim portable audio systems, a few lucky folks will now have the option to skate on the hand scribed lyrics of these legendary songs (though we wouldn’t recommend it!).

The board with the highest bid was a Jamie Thomas signature Zero deck adorned with the signature of Bob Dylan. Emblazoned with the words of Dylan’s signature hit, “Blowin’ in the Wind,” it became the most expensive single deck ever purchased in the history of the skateboarding at $38,425.

All of the proceeds from the auction went directly to the Tony Hawk Foundation, which has already helped build over 400 skate parks in low income areas.

Skateboarding’s ability to unite youth from all different types of backgrounds can’t be ignored. The House of Marley commends the Tony Hawk Foundation for working to impact underprivileged youth across the country. The epitome of #LiveMarley is creating something that helps society move forward today. Props to the Tony Hawk Foundation.

The House of Marley “Doubles The Love” To Raise Money For 1Love & Little Kids Rock

little-kids-rock-double
Throughout this season of giving, the House of Marley has been completely overwhelmed by the droves of fans that have participated in the “Double The Love” campaign. As a part of the House of Marley’s launch on Apple.com, a percentage of the profits is being donated to the Little Kids Rock charity.

Aiming to put instruments in the hands of children and keep music education in schools, Little Kids Rock has long been a favorite cause for the House of Marley and 1Love. By using donations from the “Double The Love” campaign, 1Love and the House of Marley are contributing to a future that sees a new generation of forward-thinking musicians like Bob Marley being bred in classrooms everywhere.

“We are blessed with such a generous community, and we thank everyone for their support of 1Love.org and Little Kids Rock,” said Rohan Marley.

The House of Marley donates 5% of all yearly profits to 1Love, but this additional funding will offer extra support to the important goals that Little Kids Rock works towards. In early October, the House of Marley and 1Love teamed up for the 2012 Right to Rock gala, in support of Little Kids Rock. Through silent auctions and donations, the House of Marley, 1Love and Little Kids Rock raised $800,000 to use towards the betterment of musical education.

While the “Double The Love” campaign may be over, the spirit of giving back is still alive every time you purchase a pair of in-ear headphones, on-ear headphones, over-ear headphones, or a portable audio system from the House of Marley. Thanks to all of our fans for the support. We hope that you find giving back just as rewarding as we do.

Cool Skate, Surf And Snow Brands Utilizing Sustainable Production

These days, the need for eco-friendly products is extremely important. Thankfully, green options are growing more and more common. This is especially true for the world of skate, surf and snow sports. The House of Marley recently checked out a few innovative action sports brands utilizing sustainable production.

sustainable-production-1Benefitting both the earth and mankind alike, Bamboo Skateboards long searched for an alternative to wood to make its skateboards with. It now employs bamboo, which can grow up to 18” in one day. Aside from the highly green growing process, Bamboo Sk8 also takes money made from every purchase and buys skateboards for at-risk youths.

sustainable-production-2Soul Poles have created handmade sustainable production ski poles that come from materials like bamboo, water based paints, recycled plastics and aluminum. In addition to being made with eco-friendly materials, these ski poles are stronger, lighter and more stylish than most other ski products on the market.

sustainable-production-3If you want to keep surfing for the next 100 years, the need for green technology in the extreme sports world is essential. Surfing company Matuse agrees and sought out the best eco-friendly fabric to create their green bodysuits. Made from limestone instead of the typical petroleum based neoprene of most other bodysuits, Matuse products produced with sustainable production are 98% impenetrable by water. Perfect for staying warm and dry, these green body suits will have both a positive impact on the environment and your time in the water.

The House of Marley is always excited to see like-minded companies producing items the same way we create in-ear headphones, on-ear headphones, over-ear headphones and portable audio systems. Props to Bamboo Skateboards, Soul Poles and Matuse!

Lil Wayne’s Skate Park Presents An Eco-Friendly Skate Option

lil-wayne-skate-park-2
Hip-hop artist Lil Wayne recently decided to build a skate park for his New Orleans hometown still reeling from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. With help from Mountain Dew and Brad Pitt’s Make It Right Foundation, the Lil Wayne skate park is not only an awesome place to skate, but it offers a new green model for building a skate spot.

Created and designed by the genius builders at California Skate parks, the Lil Wayne skate park utilizes a new form of concrete that allows for water to pass through the solid material and flow down to the dirt below the structure. The porous concrete is the most sustainable way of constructing things like streets, parking areas and walkways and the technology has been applied to the skate park in hopes of protecting local water quality. The Lil Wayne skate park also offers a unique design that is based on the geographic characteristics of New Orleans including quarter pipes that represent the Mississippi River and the city’s bay area.

lil-wayne-skate-park-1

Continuing on with the green construction of the park, the building is outfitted with solar power technology that will mean never having to pay an energy bill. Provided by Make It Right, the solar power technology, in addition to other recycled building materials and non-volatile compound paint, the Lil Wayne skate park is redefining what is possible in the skate world.

The solar power equipment the Make It Right group has installed will not only power the skate park’s lights, fans and other electricity needs, but it will also provide energy to the community at large. Make It Right has been working on making the area surrounding the skate park the world’s largest green neighborhood since the hurricane hit the region in 2005.

The House of Marley’s line of in-ear headphones, on-ear headphones, over-ear headphones, portable audio systems and lifestyle bags all follow the same eco-conscious principles as the new Lil Wayne skate park. The House of Marley is always extremely inspired by other forward thinkers who take the time to view the world in a different way and provide the community with a new alternative. We are happy to see Lil Wayne and Make It Right making a commitment to a more sustainable future and commend them for bringing it to the community.
